The Indian women’s cricket team clinched their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Celebrating the landmark victory, the BCCI announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the team — a record amount exceeding the ICC’s official prize money — to be shared among players, coaches, and support staff.
Batting first, India posted a total of 298 for 7 in 50 overs, powered by Shafali Verma’s 87 and Deepti Sharma’s 58. In reply, South Africa was dismissed for 246 in 45.3 overs. Deepti Sharma starred with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 39 runs, while South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt struck a fighting century that ultimately fell short. Shafali Verma was named Player of the Match for her all-round brilliance.
India’s journey to the title was remarkable. Entering the semifinals as the last qualifying team, they stunned defending champions and seven-time winners Australia by five wickets to reach the final. South Africa, too, scripted history by beating four-time champion England by 125 runs to secure their maiden final berth.
With this victory on home soil, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team became India’s first women’s side to win a World Cup, breaking the long-standing dominance of Australia and England — a feat last achieved by New Zealand in 2000.
